Engineered for big mountain missions and deep backcountry lines, the Atomic Backland 102 is a freeride touring ski built for skiers who demand both uphill efficiency and powerful downhill performance. Developed in collaboration with Austrian backcountry pioneer Matthias Haunholder, the Backland 102 shares the same proven construction as the wider 109 but in a slightly narrower, more versatile package. The FreeTour Profile blends a poplar and caruba Ultra Light Woodcore with reduced fiberglass, metal, and resin to optimize weight and responsiveness while cutting CO emissions by 26% compared to previous models. The HRZN 3D tip adds float and agility in soft snow, while the Powder Rocker profile ensures playful handling in powder, chop, and crud. Balanced, reliable, and ready for long days in the mountains, the Backland 102 is a freeride skiers dream touring companion.
Partnered with the Atomic Backland Summit 12 BR, a high-performance touring binding for skiers who demand reliability in the backcountry. Designed for advanced ski tourers, this binding features a Release Value Adjustment up to 12, delivering consistent release and confident downhill performance. The AutoFlex System incorporates a spring in the heel for 5mm of dynamic travel, preserving natural ski flex and improving shock absorption and safety. A Patented Step-in Aid makes entry quick and easy, while the adjustable Climbing Aid allows hassle-free transitions between 0, 7, and 13 angles with a simple pole flick. The Touring Brake system offers intuitive lock/unlock transitions between hike and ski mode. Built with fiberglass-reinforced high-performance PA and aluminum, the Backland Summit 12 BR is strong on the descent and featherlight on the climb the perfect companion for skiers exploring diverse alpine terrain.
